And they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13
The early apostles in the Book of Acts, after the Lord has risen, turned their world upside down; people unmistakably knew they had been with Jesus because they bore His image. Can people say the same of us today? Can they tell that we are followers of Christ? Do we bear a striking likeness to our Lord? Are we living, breathing proof that Christ is alive in us?
Think of the characteristics of Jesus – his unconditional love, patience, compassion, his loving spirit, his boldness, his humility, gentleness, justice. He modeled Ephesians 5:1 perfectly (“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children, and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”). Are our lives marked by these same characteristics? The last thing I would ever want to hear from someone is “I didn’t know you were a Christian”.
And how do we become more like Jesus? By spending intentional, significant time with him daily, in prayer and in God’s Word. Similar to a human relationship, we grow to love someone deeply when we spend more and more time with them.
Have you been with Jesus? Can people tell?
