“You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.” 2 Corinthians 1: 11
Some prayer points for Turkey and the church in Turkey:
(Prepared by the Association of Protestant Churches (Turkey) and Silas Ministries.)These are some points to help direct your prayers. Please feel free to pray for any other points you feel led to pray for.
(Note: “TeK” is a local abbreviation for ‘representatives council’ and is used to describe the “Association of Protestant Churches” (Turkey), which is an umbrella network of the full range of local Protestant churches in Turkey. The Association is a member of the European Evangelical Alliances and World EA.)
1- Pray for blessing in general for the land and its people as the Lord desires us to bless and be a blessing to all.
“By the blessingof the upright the city is exalted…” Proverbs 11:112- Pray for the political and other leaders of the nation that they will act justly and wisely; pray that they will fear God and care for the people.
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” 1Timothy 2:1-23- May the Lord reveal the truth of Christ despite all the lies that have been taught about
Christianity and the misrepresentations and errors of Christendom, past and present.
“Of course, we are living in the flesh, but we do not fight in a fleshly way. For the weapons of our warfare
are not those of the flesh. Instead, they have the power of God to demolish fortresses. We tear down
arguments and every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God, taking every thought
captive in order to obey Christ.” 2 Co. 10:3-5
4- That the Lord somehow breaks down the lies and the disinformation that has blinded and hardened hearts in our land.
5- For more servant hearted leaders. For good role models. For faithful labourers for the harvest.
“The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11,12
6- For the youth in the church, especially the second generation believers as they need to discover Jesus for themselves and not just be a part of some religious minority.7- That the younger generation takes its place, moving into leadership with commitment to Christ and the body; with humility and fresh insights. And that the older generation makes way for them with a gracious attitude. This is important as over 50% of the population is under 28!
8- For refreshment, strengthening, protection of current leaders; for wisdom and maturity as the stages of church development and national situations change.
“Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love” Ps. 33:18
9- For the development of sustainable and healthy holistic church lifestyles, which are pleasing to God and a testimony to men.
“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16
April 18, “International Day of Prayer for Turkey”Some prayer points for Turkey and the church in Turkey:
10- The church and its leaders in Turkey are in the frontline continuously, and need our prayers for perseverance. Pray for God’s emboldening, strengthening and encouragement.
“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 15:5, 611- Pray for the signs and wonders of God in evangelism. And that believers witness the intervention and blessings of God in personal and church life and are so encouraged in their faith.
12- The Malatya trial:
a) The trial of the 5 murderers continues with monthly hearings. Pray that we all (families, lawyers, church leaders and decision makers) keep up the energy and motivation to follow and be involved with the case as this is likely to go on for many more months if not years. May the constant media coverage raise positive awareness of the existence of a Turkish Christian church.
b) That the people and powers behind the killers are exposed; and that the possible links with the nationwide ‘deep-state’(Ergenekon conspiracy) investigation and trial are clarified.
c) Forongoing financial support to cover the costs of the trials. Lawyers have taken this case pro bono but we have the expenses of their flights and accommodation to attend trial hearings.
d) Continue to cover the families of our martyred brothers in prayer.
13- Other legal issues:
a) Various trials around the country.
b) Continued problem re ‘places of worship’ and the application of related regulations.
c) Some churches have had to move or are facing problems due to point (b).
d) Pray for the ‘legal committee’ of TeK who volunteer their active services and take important steps for the national church.
“He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.” 2 Corinthians 1: 10, 1114- That more churches will take the step to become “dernek”s (legally recognized associations) and that they find the right people within their churches to administrate these correctly and responsibly.
15- For the effective organisation and functioning of “TeK”, and for the finances needed to ensure this is done well.
16- For the unity amongst the churches and between the local and foreign believers too increase and deepen even further.
17- For the Lord’s wisdom and direction to be effective in areas such as social action, children, youth, family ministries, outreach, media, etc.. That the Lord will raise local believers to take on these tasks heartily and creatively.Thank you for your prayers. May the Lord’s hand be upon you always.“And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of theangel’s hand.” Rev. 8:4
